The Ruling Party, Government, and Blue House: "Jeonguiyeon Has Never Conducted 'Self-Review' on Comfort Women Victim Support Projects"
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] The Democratic Party of Korea, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and the Blue House stated on the 22nd regarding the controversy over the support fund for the Comfort Women Victim Support and Memorial Project Deliberation Committee, “No board member of the Justice and Memory Foundation (Jeonguiyeondae) has ever participated as a member of the committee selecting subsidy project operators related to support for Japanese military comfort women victims.” Previously, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family was suspected of including Justice and Memory Foundation board members, including Democratic Party lawmaker Yoon Mi-hyang, in the deliberation committee to receive support funds through so-called ‘self-review.’

Kwon In-sook, the ruling party secretary of the National Assembly’s Gender Equality and Family Committee, said at the party-government consultation briefing, “Regarding the issue of the Japanese military comfort women victim support project, the deliberation committee and the committee selecting subsidy project operators were completely separated and proceeded independently.”
She added, “We also confirmed the position that the list of reviewers should not be disclosed for fairness reasons.”
In response to reporters’ questions asking, “Is the deliberation committee a position that cannot influence the direction of the project at all?” Kwon said, “The most important function of the deliberation committee is related to the registration of comfort women victims,” and explained, “The budget-related parts are finalized in the deliberation proposal, so the authority to intervene in the overall project direction is limited to exit review.”
She emphasized, “(The deliberation committee) was reported by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family to have played a role in verifying whether the overall direction of the comfort women memorial projects or other projects, once the budget is decided and submitted, is appropriate.”

Regarding measures against digital sex crimes triggered by the ‘Nth Room incident,’ the consultation meeting agreed that “active inter-ministerial cooperation must be promoted.” Kwon said, “There was a request to show the ministries’ active will, such as counseling support, because digital sex crime content deletion personnel inevitably suffer a lot of secondary damage.”
