[Asia Economy, reporters Son Sunhee and Lim Chunhan] On the afternoon of June 22, President Moon Jaein will preside over the 6th Fair Society Anti-Corruption Policy Council at the Blue House.
Attending the meeting will be key officials from relevant ministries, including Hong Namki, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Yoo Eunhye, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, as well as Kim Hyunjun, Commissioner of the National Tax Service, Noh Seokhwan, Commissioner of the Korea Customs Service, and Min Gapryong, Commissioner General of the National Police Agency. Notably, with tensions rising between the Ministry of Justice and the prosecution over the inspection of the case involving former Prime Minister Han Myeongsook, this meeting will mark the first face-to-face encounter between Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae and Prosecutor General Yoon Sukyeol, drawing significant attention.
Prosecutor General Yoon has recently faced public calls to resign from the ruling party. There is considerable interest in whether President Moon will address this issue during the meeting. At the 5th Anti-Corruption Policy Council held in November last year, following the resignation of former Justice Minister Cho Kuk, President Moon emphasized, "From now on, the task is to establish and solidify a fair anti-corruption system that will remain steadfast regardless of whether Prosecutor General Yoon or anyone else holds the position."
The main agenda items for the meeting include a strict response to crimes that harm people's livelihoods, measures to eradicate unfair practices on online platforms, and ways to achieve a fair digital economy. President Moon is expected to announce a strong stance against crimes such as illegal private lending, voice phishing, and online gambling, which have targeted ordinary citizens facing financial difficulties due to the COVID-19 crisis. In addition, the meeting will address issues such as monopolistic practices and unfair transactions by certain online platform companies that have rapidly expanded in the post-COVID-19 untact industry.

Meanwhile, Ahn Cheolsoo, leader of the People’s Party, stated at the Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly on the morning of June 22, "The government and ruling party's efforts to oust Prosecutor General Yoon are now in full swing," and criticized, "The goal of the ruling party and Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae is not to 'save Han Myeongsook,' but to 'remove Yoon Sukyeol.'" Ahn further argued, "Before the launch of the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials (CIO), they are determined to completely tame the prosecution," and claimed, "It is an obvious step to muzzle the fierce prosecution led by Yoon Sukyeol before bringing in the so-called 'pet dog' CIO."
