Kim Woo-young, Strategic Planning Committee Member of the National Balanced Development Commission, Appointed as Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs of Seoul
Choi Taekyong Appointed as Senior Secretary for Political Affairs and Special Member for Public Communication at the National Balanced Development Committee
[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] On the 19th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it has appointed Kim Woo-young (50), a current Strategic Planning Committee member of the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development, as the new Deputy Mayor for Political Affairs to work alongside Mayor Park Won-soon and realize the achievements of the second half of the 7th municipal administration.
Appointee Kim graduated from Sungkyunkwan University with a degree in Korean Language and Literature and earned a master's degree in Business Administration from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). He previously served as the mayor of Eunpyeong District during the 5th and 6th municipal administrations and is currently active as a Strategic Planning Committee member of the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development.
Known for his proactive and principled approach to work and excellent judgment, Kim is expected to leverage his diverse political experience?including roles in the National Assembly, the Blue House, and as a district mayor in Seoul?and his broad interpersonal network across various sectors to effectively manage spokesperson duties, citizen communication planning, human rights affairs, cooperation with the National Assembly and local councils, and party-related matters. He is anticipated to build smooth cooperative relationships not only within the Seoul Metropolitan Government but also with the ruling party, government, Blue House, and civil society.
Seoul also appointed Choi Taek-yong (52), a current Special Committee member for Public Communication of the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development, as the new Chief Political Secretary.
Appointee Choi has accumulated extensive experience in the National Assembly, political circles, and government, and is praised for his outstanding political acumen and balanced administrative capabilities, making him well-suited to assist the Mayor of Seoul.
Previously, during the 7th local elections in 2018, he served as co-head of the Regional Coexistence Headquarters in Mayor Park Won-soon's election campaign committee, contributing to the mayor’s third term. He also concurrently holds the positions of deputy spokesperson for the central party and vice-chairman of the Democratic Party’s Euljiro Committee.
