Dongjak-gu Expands Installation of Recycling Stations in High-Density Residential Areas
Installed this year in 3 frequent illegal dumping areas among single-family and multi-family housing clusters... Operating a total of 19 locations... Enhanced resident convenience with odor removal panels and CCTV installed in 6-type recycling bins
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) will expand the installation of recycling stations (Clean Houses) by the end of this month and begin full-scale operation starting next month.
Since 2016, the district has installed and operated 16 recycling stations targeting areas densely populated with single-family and multi-family houses where mixed waste disposal and illegal dumping are frequent. This year, starting from February, based on residents' demands and opinions, three new stations will be installed at ▲ Sangdo 1-dong (Sangdo-dong 56-69) ▲ Sangdo 2-dong (Sangdo-dong 159-278) ▲ Sadang 2-dong (Dongjak-dong 333-5).
The recycling stations measure 6m wide × 1.5m deep × 2m high and consist of six types of recycling bins for ▲ vinyl ▲ paper ▲ plastic/PET ▲ cans/bottles ▲ Styrofoam ▲ waste fluorescent lamps and bulbs.
In particular, the stations installed this year are equipped with odor removal panels using an air circulation system inside the recycling bins to alleviate residents' discomfort.
The district will hire local residents as resource managers to operate and maintain the stations cleanly and install CCTV to monitor illegal dumping of waste in real time.
Additionally, starting in December, the district will implement a ‘Thursday Disposal System for Waste Vinyl and PET Bottles’ targeting all single-family homes and commercial establishments throughout the area.
All types of waste vinyl and transparent PET bottles must be separated and placed in front of homes every Thursday. However, other recyclables besides waste vinyl and transparent PET bottles cannot be disposed of on this day.
For apartment complexes, residents should continue to dispose of transparent PET bottles, colored PET bottles, and general plastics separately on designated days as before.
Furthermore, to promote proper waste separation, 323 public institutions including the district office, community service centers, related organizations, and companies will take the lead by implementing ‘Zero Waste Policy for Public Institutions.’
Specific actions include ▲ placing recycling bins for five or more types of recyclables in offices ▲ encouraging the use of personal cups ▲ inspecting the status of recycling separation ▲ managing separation and providing staff education.
