[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] It was found that while regular workers earn 3,612,000 won per month, non-regular workers earn 1,643,000 won. Although the monthly wages of non-regular workers have increased, the wage gap between regular and non-regular workers remains.
According to the '2019 Social Indicators of Korea' released by Statistics Korea on the 18th, the average monthly wage of regular workers was 3,612,000 won, an increase of 102,000 won (2.9%) from 3,510,000 won the previous year. The average monthly wage of non-regular workers also rose by 3.5% to 1,643,000 won from 1,588,000 won last year.
Furthermore, the wage gap between regular and non-regular workers continued to increase, reaching 1,969,000 won last year. The wage gap has increased annually as follows: 1,822,000 won in 2015, 1,838,000 won in 2016, 1,857,000 won in 2017, and 1,922,000 won in 2018.
Working hours decreased for both wage workers and non-wage workers. The average weekly working hours for wage workers was 35.9 hours, down 0.7 hours from the previous year. Non-wage workers also saw a decrease, with average weekly working hours at 46.8 hours, down 0.3 hours from the previous year.

Satisfaction with working conditions among wage workers was 32.3%, an increase of 4.6 percentage points compared to 2017. Satisfaction with working conditions was highest in the order of working hours (34.5%), work environment (34.2%), and wages (23.1%). Men showed higher satisfaction with wages, while women showed higher satisfaction with work environment and working hours.
