Coway Built-in Water Purifier, 10 Years of Growth in Space Efficiency and Convenience
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Since Coway launched the 'built-in water purifier' installed under the sink, it has become possible to drink cool purified water directly from the sink without needing a separate water purifier. The built-in water purifier introduced by Coway in 2010 is a space-efficient product as the main unit can be placed under the sink. It can be easily used through a dedicated faucet above the sink, which led to explosive responses from consumers who value interior design and convenience right after its release.
After 10 years since its launch, it has sold over 250,000 units worldwide, establishing a new trend in water purifiers. Currently, Coway exports built-in water purifiers to 10 countries worldwide, including the United States.
Recently, it has continued to receive positive feedback as interest in interior design grows and the number of single-person households and nuclear families with limited room size increases. Domestic sales last year increased by 25% compared to the previous year, and sales until May this year also rose by about 10% compared to the same period last year, maintaining a steady upward trend. Coway’s strategy is to expand consumer choices and propose a new kitchen lifestyle culture through the built-in water purifier series.
The representative product, Coway Built-in Water Purifier P-150N, was planned reflecting the lifestyle of consumers who want to use their kitchen space more freely. Only the dedicated faucet that dispenses water is exposed externally to minimize visible size. The main unit can be installed by utilizing hidden spaces inside the sink or island table. It features a slim design with a width of 15cm, allowing use even in narrow spaces.
Another feature is the convenience of drinking purified water through the dedicated faucet above the sink. Clean water can be used directly from the sink, making it useful not only for drinking but also for washing vegetables, fruits, and rice. Water for cooking can also be conveniently obtained.
This product uses a direct water supply method without a water tank. It is equipped with an upgraded 3rd generation NanoTrap filter system and boasts superior performance compared to other built-in water purifier filters by tightly removing contaminants with a five-layer filter structure. According to Coway, it effectively removes fine particulate heavy metals such as iron, aluminum, mercury, and lead, as well as norovirus and E. coli. Coway built-in water purifiers operate without electricity, allowing economical use without worrying about electricity bills. The monthly rental fee is 22,800 KRW (based on a registration fee of 100,000 KRW), and the lump-sum purchase price is 715,000 KRW. Coway plans to continuously release new products that enhance functionality, hygiene, and convenience, fueled by the steady popularity of built-in water purifiers.
