Online Family Reading Group 'Jungnang Sup Book Club' Fully Enrolled in 55 Seconds
Operating an Online Family Reading Club for 20 Families with Children from Toddlers to Lower Elementary Grades... Read Monthly Free Books and Complete Two Missions, Also Recruiting for Jungnang Sup Book Club Plus
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Kyung-gi) announced that the first session of the online family reading club ‘Jungnangsup Book Club’ was filled within 55 seconds.
On the 26th of last month, 20 families were recruited on a first-come, first-served basis at Jungnangsup Children's Library to participate in the Jungnangsup Book Club.
The Jungnangsup Book Club is an online family reading club targeting families with children from infants to lower elementary grades, established to provide reading education suitable for social distancing amid the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
The activity period is from this month until November.
Members receive one book each for children and adults every month, and after reading, they must write book reviews and complete a total of two missions related to the monthly theme.
This month’s theme is ‘Epidemic.’ Parents read Albert Camus’s ‘The Plague,’ and children read Heidi Trpak’s ‘Virus Billy,’ then take photos related to virus prevention such as hand washing and upload them to the library’s website bulletin board.
For residents who missed this opportunity, Jungnangsup Book Club+ (Plus) is also operated. Participants find and read the mission books themselves at libraries or bookstores and complete one mission. Four children are selected by lottery each month to receive children’s books.
The district is promoting the ‘Read 1,000 Books Before School’ project to encourage reading habits during early childhood. Currently, 1,201 people are participating, and 18 children have already succeeded in reading 1,000 books.
