NS Home Shopping, Wando Live Abalone Special Broadcast 'Hot Deal' Sale
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] NS Home Shopping announced on the 17th that it will hold a "Wando Live Abalone Special Broadcast" at 5:45 PM on the 19th to ease the difficulties faced by fishermen.
Abalone must be selectively shipped before the high-temperature period begins, with a fixed quantity to be shipped. However, this year, due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) blocking export routes, a sharp decline in domestic demand, and the early arrival of the high-temperature period, fishermen's concerns have increased.
Accordingly, NS Home Shopping's special broadcast will offer only medium-sized abalones, which have the greatest concern about stock depletion, at a "hot deal" price. The product consists of 35 medium-sized abalones aged 2 to 3 years, priced at 49,900 KRW. This amounts to approximately 1,425 KRW per abalone. The abalones, delivered fresh and alive, are suitable for consumption as sashimi, grilled, braised, or in sauces.
In particular, Wando live abalones are raised in Wando, which produces 80% of Korea's kelp, and are fed only kelp and seaweed. They have been the number one food product in NS Home Shopping's sales for seven consecutive years, with a repurchase rate of 25%, making them a popular food item.

Kim Yong-man, Executive Director of NS Home Shopping's First Business Division, said, "We heard that abalones carefully raised by fishermen are facing the risk of death due to shrinking sales channels and the early arrival of the high-temperature period. We hope consumers will participate in kind consumption to support fishermen in difficult situations through the Wando live abalone hot deal broadcast and purchase fresh abalones at the hot deal price."
