"Galaxy Fold2 and Z Flip 5G to Launch Late August... Initial Supply Shortage"
Foldable Display UTG Initial Supply Shortage
Ross Young: "Release Expected Late August or Late September... Need to Order Quickly"
Galaxy Note20 Higher-End Model May Also Be Released Late
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Even if the Galaxy Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Flip 5G are unveiled at the Unpacked event, they are expected to be released after the end of August, and it is unlikely that sufficient initial supply will be available.
On the 16th (local time), Ross Young, CEO of market research firm DSCC, stated on Twitter, "Production of the Galaxy Fold 2 and Z Flip 5G will not start until August," adding, "They will be released at the end of August or September, but the quantity of Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) displays is limited, so orders must be placed quickly."
His claim is that the quantity of foldable displays used in the two products will be limited until 2021, which may cause supply shortages in the early stages of release. The Galaxy Z Flip, released last February, also experienced scarcity due to insufficient supply at launch. The production speed of foldable smartphones is slower compared to regular smartphones.
Samsung Electronics launched a new Mirror Gold model on the 6th to continue the popularity of the Galaxy Z Flip. The Mirror Gold was first revealed at the Galaxy Unpacked event held in San Francisco, USA, last February but was not sold domestically. After being released only in certain countries such as China, India, and Singapore, it was introduced for the first time in Korea this time. View original imageAfter the Unpacked event on August 5th (local time), the Galaxy Note 20 is expected to be released first, with the Fold 2 and Z Flip 5G starting to be available as early as the end of August. The release of the Galaxy Note 20 Plus (Ultra) model may also be somewhat delayed. The display of the higher-end Galaxy Note 20 model uses LPTO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) material. LPTO is a technology that significantly reduces power consumption and supports a 120Hz refresh rate and WQHD+ resolution.
Ross Young, CEO, explained, "Due to the LPTO lamp, the Galaxy Note 20 Plus (Ultra) model may be released a little later."

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics plans to unveil the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Fold 2 around August 5th at the Galaxy Unpacked event. The Galaxy Fold 2’s display will use the same UTG material as the Galaxy Z Flip, and due to durability concerns, it is expected that the S Pen will not be supported. The Galaxy Fold 2’s camera is reported to include the same 108-megapixel lens as the Galaxy S20 Ultra, a telephoto lens (48 megapixels) supporting 30x zoom, and an ultra-wide lens (12 megapixels).
