"No Bad Dogs in the World"... Nowon-gu Provides Visiting Dog Behavior Correction Training
Noise from dog barking and dog bite incidents intensify neighbor conflicts... From the 15th, first-come-first-served recruitment of 20 households, target pets must be registered and vaccinated for rabies... Education fee 20,000 KRW, total 3 sessions including pre-consultation, counseling and feedback provided via SNS
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) is operating a dog behavior correction program for people who face difficulties due to a lack of proper information about companion dogs.
This program aims to reduce conflicts between neighbors caused by problem behaviors of companion dogs and to prevent stress for the owners.
To this end, a dog behavior expert will visit the living spaces of the companion dogs directly to assist with behavior correction.
The program is open to Nowon-gu residents who have completed animal registration and rabies vaccination for their companion dogs, limited to the first 20 households on a first-come, first-served basis.
The training will be conducted by the dog behavior specialist organization, the Non-Profit Organization City Without Stray Dogs, and applications can be submitted through the Nowon-gu website from the 15th to the 26th.
Selected participants will be notified individually via SMS, and after scheduling adjustments, the training will begin on July 6.
The training fee is 20,000 KRW, consisting of three sessions of two hours each per household. The first session involves a preliminary consultation to understand the characteristics and issues of the owner and the dog and to arrange the visit schedule. The second session includes a direct visit by the trainer to observe the dog’s living environment and provide a 1:1 solution tailored to the problem behaviors, followed by practical demonstrations with the owner. The third session reviews assignments, assesses changes, and discusses future improvements together.
Consultations and feedback via messenger will be provided not only during the training period but also afterward to enhance satisfaction.
The district has been conducting visiting dog training since 2019. Last year, a total of 40 households received administrative correction training in the first and second halves of the year, with over 80% of participants expressing satisfaction.
Meanwhile, the district is also carrying out various projects for Nowon residents with companion animals, including pet festivals, the creation of pet playgrounds, and pet care services during holiday periods.
Additionally, to reduce conflicts with neighbors who do not own pets and to establish a proper pet etiquette culture, enforcement and publicity efforts will be strengthened, focusing on parks and other public areas.
