‘Sicheongja Media Center’ Yeosu Hosting Confirmed... Media Era ‘Blossoming’
Securing 5 Billion KRW in National Funds, Opening in 2023... Expected Revitalization of Yeomun District
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The 'Viewer Media Center,' a public institution that realizes viewers' access to broadcasting, is opening in Yeosu.
According to Yeosu City (Mayor Kwon Oh-bong), the Korea Communications Commission announced on the 12th that Yeosu City, Jeollanam-do, was finally selected after deliberation by the selection committee.
With the establishment of the Viewer Media Center in Yeosu, the inconvenience of citizens having to travel to Gwangju for media education and experience is expected to be significantly alleviated. Yeosu was evaluated as having convenient transportation access, a diverse demand base, and well-established infrastructure connected to universities, broadcasting stations, and social organizations.
The Viewer Media Center is a national institution operated by the Viewer Media Foundation under the Korea Communications Commission, which is directly under the President. It supports media education and experience, broadcasting facilities, and equipment rental so that general viewers can directly produce broadcasting programs. The Jeollanam-do Viewer Media Center is scheduled to be built in early 2023 on the site of the Munsu Government Building in Yeosu City, with one basement floor and four above-ground floors.
The Korea Communications Commission will invest 5 billion KRW of national funds to support broadcasting production facilities and equipment, while the province and city will provide buildings and land necessary for establishing the Viewer Media Center and support its operation. The operation and management of the center will be handled by the Viewer Media Foundation.
Mayor Kwon Oh-bong of Yeosu stated, "It will greatly contribute to building a distinctive media ecosystem in Jeollanam-do linked with local media and revitalizing the Yeoseo Munsu area," and added, "Through support and education for broadcasting production for various groups such as youth, people with disabilities, housewives, and children, it is expected to play a significant role in revitalizing the media content industry as a genuine media education hub."
