Gyeonggi-do to Compensate Vulnerable Groups Including Daily Workers for 'COVID-19 Income Loss'
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will provide "sick leave income loss compensation" of 230,000 KRW per person so that vulnerable workers such as daily workers can get tested without worrying about their livelihood when they have suspected COVID-19 symptoms.
Gyeonggi Province announced that it has decided to promote the "Sick Leave Income Loss Compensation Support for Vulnerable Workers" with 31 cities and counties and started accepting applications from the 15th.
The support targets vulnerable workers in the province who have undergone diagnostic testing for suspected COVID-19 symptoms after the 4th of this month and have self-isolated until the test results are notified, including ▲ part-time workers working less than 40 hours per week ▲ daily workers ▲ workers in special forms of employment ▲ caregivers.
Applications can be submitted from the 15th of this month until December 11th by submitting the application form, a copy of ID, a pledge related to self-isolation compliance and prevention of fraudulent claims, and qualification verification documents via email, mail, or in person through the relevant city or county of residence. However, applications are only possible after receiving a diagnostic test based on medical staff's opinion at health centers or screening clinics and receiving a "negative" test result.
Also, since "COVID-19 Emergency Living Expenses" are provided to confirmed COVID-19 patients, this compensation will not be provided to prevent duplicate benefits.
After document screening, the compensation will be paid in the form of local currency or prepaid cards.
Regarding this measure, Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung said on his SNS on the 4th, "The reality for them is a life where they cannot rest even when sick, a job they cannot let go of even if it is dangerous, and they have to work two or three jobs instead of stopping that work," adding, "While proactive and bold quarantine is important, we will carefully take care of the most vulnerable people and places together with 31 cities and counties."
