Gyeonggi Fire Department to Operate 'Citizen Lifeguard Team' Starting Next Month on the 1st
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters will operate the '119 Citizen Water Rescue Team' again this year, following last year.
On the 15th, the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters announced that from next month 1st to August 31st, the 119 Citizen Water Rescue Team will be operated at 28 rivers, streams, valleys, and lakes in the province, including Yongmuncheon in Yangpyeong.
The Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters previously selected about 300 rescue team members from holders of water rescue-related certifications, volunteer firefighters, and volunteers.
The rescue team will conduct life-saving and preemptive hazard removal activities at water recreation sites in the province, and plans to secure various supplies such as tubes early to ensure smooth rescue operations.
An Gi-seung, the Safety Officer of the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters, said, "This year, we will operate the 119 Citizen Water Rescue Team to prevent safety accidents at water recreation sites and establish a rapid response system in case of emergency disasters. In particular, due to COVID-19, all activities including training and deployment will comply with the 'Basic Guidelines for Social Distancing in Daily Life.'"

Meanwhile, last year, the rescue team mobilized 7,438 rescue personnel at 29 locations, rescued 17 people, and provided on-site emergency treatment to 265 people.
