Summer Peak Season National Park Campsite Usage Lottery System... Online Application Open Until the 24th
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] The Korea National Park Service will conduct a lottery system for visitors who wish to use national park campgrounds during the peak summer season from July 16 to August 15 this year.
Applications for the lottery system are accepted through the National Park Integrated Reservation System (reservation.knps.or.kr), with the application period from 4 PM on the 15th to 12 AM on the 24th. Winners will be announced at 5 PM on the 24th and can be confirmed via the National Park Integrated Reservation System and mobile text messages.
The lottery system covers 29 general and automobile campgrounds using personal camping equipment across national parks such as Seoraksan and Jirisan, totaling 1,138 campsites. To maintain social distancing due to COVID-19, a certain distance between campsites has been secured.
Additionally, the Korea National Park Service operates a separate lottery system (7 sites, 54 campsites) to accommodate socially vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities and national veterans. These designated campsites have been assigned considering user movement to minimize inconvenience.
Applicants wishing to apply for these campsites must submit supporting documents as files through the reservation system application menu from the 15th to the 18th. The Korea National Park Service will verify eligibility. The subsequent application period and procedures remain the same.
Remaining campsites due to under-subscription or non-payment by winners will be converted to a first-come, first-served online reservation system on the reservation start dates of the 1st and 15th of the following month. For inquiries about the lottery system, contact the National Park Customer Center at 1670-9201.
To maintain COVID-19 social distancing, national parks are currently open at about 50% of total campsites, with temperature checks and checklist inspections conducted before entry. Full-option campgrounds using shared camping equipment such as bedding and caravans are not open.

Kim Jong-hee, Director of Visitor Welfare at the Korea National Park Service, stated, "We are improving the facility reservation system so that all citizens can use national park facilities fairly and easily. Since 2014, to resolve fairness issues caused by early reservation closures on a first-come, first-served basis, we have implemented a lottery system for facility reservations during the summer and autumn peak seasons."
