On the 12th, regarding Ri Son-gwon, North Korea's Foreign Minister, suggesting the enhancement of nuclear capabilities and the possible nullification of the North Korea?U.S. Singapore Declaration in a statement, the Ministry of Unification refrained from making an evaluation and expressed a principled stance to continue efforts for peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.
Cho Hye-sil, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Unification, said at a regular briefing held at the Government Seoul Office that day, "We will not publicly evaluate the intent of Foreign Minister Ri Son-gwon's statement," adding, "The government will continue to make efforts for peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula."
Regarding the issue of leaflets sent to North Korea, which North Korea has been criticizing daily, Deputy Spokesperson Cho said, "We are responding strictly to the leaflet distribution that endangers the safety of residents in border areas and violates agreements between the South and North Korean leaders."
