Daegu Urban Railroad Ends Operation of 'Senior Priority Cars'... Factor Increasing Congestion Rate
Train operation intervals restored to 5 minutes starting July 1
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Daegu Metropolitan Transit Corporation will end the operation of the 'Priority Car for the Elderly,' which was implemented since last month to protect the elderly vulnerable to infectious diseases and to prevent the resurgence of COVID-19, starting from the 15th.
According to the corporation, there is no longer a need to operate the priority car as over 99.9% of subway passengers are wearing masks due to the mandatory mask-wearing policy on public transportation, and the daily average sales of conscience masks per station reach four.
Since all schools resumed in-person classes from the 8th, the congestion rate during rush hours has risen to 57%, increasing crowding in some train cars, which was also a factor in this decision.
The corporation will also restore the train operation interval during rush hours from 4 minutes and 30 seconds back to 5 minutes starting July 1st, to secure sufficient time for vehicle maintenance and to reduce operator fatigue.
