Golf Pro Helps Unknown Elderly Woman Fallen on the Road
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] It was recently revealed that a golf association tour pro rescued an elderly woman in her 80s who had fallen on the road and was anxiously waiting for help, bringing warmth to the local community.
The protagonist is Hong Sangjun (28), who graduated from the Department of Sports Leisure at Honam University and is currently active as a tour pro with the Korea Professional Golfers' Association in Gwangju.
On the morning of the 20th of last month, around 11 a.m., Hong discovered grandmother Lee Subok (86, female) lying on the sidewalk in Wolsan-dong, Seo-gu, while on his way from his home in Nodae-dong, Nam-gu, Gwangju, to a golf practice range in Suwan District.
It is known that Ms. Lee had been groaning for about 20 minutes after tripping over a stone.
Hong immediately put Ms. Lee into his car and took her to the hospital.
At first, they thought it was a minor injury and visited the usual hospital and pain clinic, but as the pain worsened to the point where walking was impossible, they went to a large hospital where examinations revealed serious conditions including fractures in the kneecap and ribs.
Hong took care of Ms. Lee in a wheelchair, completing hospital registration and diagnosis procedures, and looked after her for half a day until her family arrived and she was admitted by 4 p.m. Ms. Lee was discharged on the 9th after surgery and treatment.
Ms. Lee said, “I am very grateful to the young man who, like a grandson, not only moved a stranger to the hospital but also took care of various things until my family arrived despite being busy. I wanted to express my gratitude by offering a reward, but he refused, and we promised to have a meal together with my family soon.”
