"What to Secure First" ... Gyeongbuk Province Holds 'Job Strategy Meeting' in Preparation for Government's 3rd Supplementary Budget
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Dong-wook] Gyeongsangbuk-do has begun full-scale preparations to create 'Gyeongbuk-type Hope Jobs' in anticipation of the government's third supplementary budget plan.
At the 'COVID-19 Overcome Gyeongbuk-type Hope Jobs Creation Strategy Meeting' held on the 9th at the provincial government’s Changsin Room, chaired by Vice Governor Jeon Woo-heon, Gyeongsangbuk-do resolved to do its utmost to discover jobs in the non-face-to-face and digital sectors and for vulnerable groups, as well as to secure national funding in response to the supplementary budget.
The government plans to invest 3.6 trillion KRW in this supplementary budget to create 550,000+α direct jobs, including non-face-to-face and digital jobs.
The non-face-to-face and digital jobs discussed at the meeting include ▲ Visiting SW Learning Class (300 people) ▲ Agricultural Big Data Collection and Productivity Improvement Model Development (100 people). Jobs for vulnerable groups include ▲ Gyeongbuk Job Hope Intern Program (4,000 people) ▲ Gyeongbuk Clean Safety Day Project (2,000 people) ▲ Traffic Safety Keeper Program (1,300 people) ▲ Women Safety Security Officer Operation (450 people) ▲ Andong Forest Fire Recovery and Other Forest Disaster Jobs (790 people) ▲ Gyeongbuk Hope Culture and Arts Group Operation (100 people).
Additionally, youth digital jobs include ▲ Public Big Data Job Project (90 people) ▲ Youth Enterprise Digital Job Support (50 people). Youth work experience support projects include ▲ Regional Innovation Institution Youth Internship Program (50 people) ▲ Gyeongbuk Tourism Youth Internship Support (40 people). Small and medium-sized enterprise employment subsidy programs include ▲ Employment Subsidies and Support for Hiring in Local Companies (300 people) ▲ Youth Enterprise Reemployment Support (100 people).
An official from the province stated, "This meeting was prepared in response to the Emergency Economic Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters trends even before the government’s supplementary budget plan was announced. We will actively respond as each ministry’s job projects are announced and continuously discover unique project items specific to our province."

Meanwhile, according to Statistics Korea data released on May 13, Gyeongsangbuk-do’s employment rate in April was 60.1% (national average 59.4%), down 1.3 percentage points compared to the same month last year, and the number of employed persons was 1,395,000, a decrease of 28,000 compared to the same month last year.
