[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Daeseok) has developed a large-scale Hope Job Project for about 900 residents in vulnerable groups and those in need of livelihood support due to COVID-19.
According to Seo-gu on the 9th, the Hope Job Project is a public job project for vulnerable groups promoted by local governments as part of the second phase of Gwangju City’s public job project autonomous district-type project and the government’s announcement on the 6th Emergency Economic Meeting held on the 1st, titled ‘Expansion of Employment Safety Nets and Social Safety Nets including Emergency Job Provision.’
The district discovered 73 projects through a three-phase departmental demand survey led by the deputy mayor to develop the Hope Job Project.
Among them, 58 sustainable projects directly related to residents’ lives were finalized, including a survey on the use of parking lots for the disabled, production of face masks for vulnerable groups, smoking cessation guidance around schools, urban environment maintenance, and COVID-19 prevention projects.
Residents selected for the Hope Job Project will receive wages of 8,590 KRW per hour and 670,000 to 1,800,000 KRW per month (working 3 to 8 hours per day) and will be enrolled in the four major social insurances.
Seo-gu plans to thoroughly prepare in advance, including establishing detailed plans for each project, so that implementation can begin immediately upon government policy direction and supplementary budget confirmation.
Deputy Mayor Kim Ilyung said, “Through this Hope Job Project, we will do our best to prepare for the project so that it can provide some help to residents struggling due to COVID-19 and lead to revitalization of the local economy.”
