On the morning of the 9th, Vice Minister Kim held a meeting with experts in the Green New Deal sector related to the Korean New Deal at the government Seoul office conference room, stating this. The meeting was organized to discuss representative innovative projects related to the Green New Deal under the government's 'Korean New Deal,' gather on-site opinions on regulatory reforms and institutional improvement tasks, as well as research and development (R&D) tasks for establishing a green foundation. Officials from related government ministries, agencies, and academia attended and participated.
Vice Minister Kim said, "Experts have pointed to climate change as the cause of the record-breaking wildfires in Australia from late last year to early this year, and some speculate that the outbreak of zoonotic diseases like COVID-19 is also an effect of climate change, such as ecosystem destruction and rising temperatures," adding, "We must lead the post-COVID era through the Green New Deal, which has already been announced as part of the Korean New Deal, and enhance the sustainability of our economy."
He also explained, "Our country needs to overcome the economic crisis caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and accelerate the transition from a follower nation to a leading nation in response to the economic and social structural changes triggered by COVID-19," further stating, "We must build a new economic ecosystem not only through bold fiscal investment to create jobs but also through institutional improvements."
