Chosun University of Science and Technology, Double Celebration for Excellence in Project Selection and Evaluation
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Chosun Institute of Science and Technology (President Jo Soon-gye) recently celebrated a double success by being selected as a ‘Leading College for Post-Secondary Education’ and receiving the highest grade in the annual evaluation of the ‘Type 1 Specialized College Innovation Support Project.’
Chosun Institute of Science and Technology announced on the 8th that it was selected as a new supported college for the ‘Leading College for Post-Secondary Education (Type 3 Specialized College Innovation Support Project)’ recently announced by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea, and also received an A grade in the annual evaluation of the ‘2019 Type 1 Specialized College Innovation Support Project’ by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation, being named an excellent college.
The Leading College for Post-Secondary Education project supports specialized colleges in establishing post-secondary learning foundations such as industry-academia-government governance and adult-friendly academic systems, and operating various learner-tailored post-secondary learning programs to serve as lifelong vocational education hubs responding to regional demands.
The selected Leading Colleges for Post-Secondary Education will receive a total of 20 billion KRW over two years until 2021, with about 1 billion KRW annually per school.
Chosun Institute of Science and Technology plans to continuously produce expert personnel in ‘Smart Factory’ and automation equipment through its training program for ‘Smart Factory’ operation technology, a promising industry in the Fourth Industrial Revolution era, and to lead regional growth and create new jobs by supporting the acquisition of the Production Automation Industrial Engineer certification.
A ‘Smart Factory’ is a factory where the entire process of product assembly, packaging, and inspection is automated based on ICT convergence. Chosun Institute of Science and Technology expects to establish a regional lifelong vocational education platform through the operation of such ‘Smart Factories.’
Additionally, the college secured about 4 billion KRW in project funds this year by achieving the highest ‘A’ grade in the first-year annual evaluation of the ‘2019 Type 1 Specialized College Innovation Support Project.’
Chosun Institute of Science and Technology was selected as an ‘Autonomous Improvement College,’ the highest grade in the Ministry of Education’s university basic competency diagnosis evaluation in 2018, and has been conducting the Type 1 Specialized College Innovation Support Project (Autonomous Agreement Type) from 2019 to 2022. This evaluation was based on project performance from March 2019 to February this year, corresponding to the first year.
The college received high evaluations in key core areas of the project such as ▲core performance indicators (employment rate, student enrollment rate, full-time faculty acquisition rate, education cost return rate, total number of courses) ▲project implementation performance ▲performance management.
Accordingly, Chosun Institute of Science and Technology achieved a triple crown by receiving about 7 billion KRW annually in Ministry of Education support, including selection for the Type 1 (Autonomous Agreement Type) and Type 3 (Leading Post-Secondary Education Type) Innovation Support Projects this year, as well as last year’s selection for the Social Customized Leading Specialized College (LINC+) project.
President Jo Soon-gye said, “It is an honor that our university was selected for the ‘Leading College for Post-Secondary Education’ project, which can expand lifelong vocational education opportunities. We will do our best to fulfill the role of a regional vocational education hub and a lifelong vocational education institution for post-secondary learners by establishing support plans for adult learners through the development and operation of various curricula linked to our university’s strengths.”
