Experience Mokpo Marine Culture by Boarding the Joseon Tongsinsa Ship
Operation of Onboard Experience Program by National Research Institute of Maritime Cultural Heritage
The Joseon Tongsinsa ship, recreated in life-size, will be transformed into a cultural space where visitors can experience Mokpo's maritime culture. The National Maritime Cultural Heritage Research Institute of the Cultural Heritage Administration announced on the 8th that from the 13th until November 25th, an experiential program will be held aboard the Joseon Tongsinsa ship. The program is aimed at children in elementary school and older, along with their families. Participants can listen to explanations from cultural interpreters while observing and experiencing various cultural assets of Mokpo and underwater excavation sites. The program is divided into maritime heritage cultural tours and boat and waterway explorations. The former includes visits to Mokpo cultural assets and the underwater excavation site of the Dallido ship (a 14th-century celadon transport vessel). Performances by Joseon Tongsinsa musicians and traditional folk plays are also featured. This part of the program is held 12 times, twice a month. The latter involves tours of the Sinan ship underwater excavation and the Jindo Myeongnyang Battle Road underwater excavation sites, with departures on August 22 and 29 for two sessions. Registration is available on the National Maritime Cultural Heritage Research Institute website.
