Mujugun Eases Farmers' Concerns Over Agricultural Product Shipment and Distribution
Income Increase for Distribution-Vulnerable Farms and Consumers' Expectation to Purchase Fresh Agricultural Products
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Go Dallyoung] Muju County has established a systematic distribution infrastructure, easing the shipment concerns of small-scale farmers in the Muju area who have been struggling with agricultural product shipments.
On the morning of the 5th, the county selected the Muju Firefly Cooperative Joint Business Corporation as the operator of the agricultural product joint collection center, and held a business agreement signing and launch ceremony at the Muju Agricultural Product Production Area Distribution Center, kicking off the joint collection, pickup, and sales project for agricultural products.
The signing and launch ceremony was attended by Hwang Inhong, Muju County Governor; Yoo Songyeol, Chairman of the Muju County Council; the representative of Muju Firefly Cooperative Joint Business Corporation; the heads of Muju Nonghyup and Gucheon-dong Nonghyup; village chiefs of the collection center installation villages; the president of the Korea Agricultural Management Association; and the chairman of the Muju Farmers' Association.
The Muju Firefly Cooperative Joint Business Corporation, selected as the operator of the agricultural product joint collection and sales project, plans to start collecting various agricultural products carefully cultivated and shipped by farmers at agricultural product joint collection centers installed in six towns and townships including Muju, Mupung, and Seolcheon from this month.
The business corporation will also collect and sell agricultural products through small-scale joint collection centers in each village and act as an agent for shipping the collected agricultural products to wholesale markets by circulating among the collection centers.
In addition, they will provide education on the commercialization of produced agricultural products and work to prevent flood shipments and price collapses by providing information on wholesale markets.
This is a measure in accordance with the "Ordinance on the Installation, Management, and Operation of Agricultural Product Joint Collection Centers and Collection and Sales Business in Muju County," which was promulgated in December 2018 to reduce the distribution burden on farmers in Muju County.
The county expects this to greatly contribute to increasing the income of small-scale farmers and farming households, including elderly farmers who have had difficulties with shipments. Consumers will also be able to purchase fresher Muju agricultural products as high-quality agricultural products shipped by farmers are quickly distributed and produced.
