[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] Eun Seong-su, Chairman of the Financial Services Commission, and Yoon Seok-heon, Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service, had a surprise luncheon meeting on the 5th. This meeting took place when Chairman Eun, who emphasized 'communication' and 'collaboration' immediately after the appointment of the FSS Deputy Governors the previous day, visited Yeouido in person.
The Financial Services Commission announced that Chairman Eun had a luncheon with Governor Yoon and the newly appointed Deputy Governors at a restaurant located in Yeouido, Seoul. Attendees included Chairman Eun, Governor Yoon, Secretary-General Kim Tae-hyun, newly appointed Deputy Governors Kim Geun-ik, Choi Seong-il, Kim Do-in, and Director of Consumer Protection Kim Eun-kyung. It is known that the luncheon was first proposed by Chairman Eun to Governor Yoon.
Earlier, immediately after the appointment of the Deputy Governors, Chairman Eun urged Governor Yoon of the FSS to "swiftly and flawlessly carry out the given tasks such as financial support and field inspections in response to COVID-19 without wavering, protecting financial consumers, and managing the soundness of financial companies."
Within the financial sector, Chairman Eun’s surprise move is seen as an effort to cover up the rumored conflicts that had arisen between the FSC and FSS over the appointment of the FSS Deputy Governors and to strengthen communication.
