Premium Danhobak ‘Haenam Mini Bam Hobak’ Officially Shipped
Superior Quality Through Gongjung Jaebae, High Consumer Popularity
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan) announced on the 5th that the harvest of sweet and cozy mini chestnut pumpkins has officially begun.
The mini chestnut pumpkin, about the size of a hand, is more nutritious than regular pumpkins and is rich in beta-carotene, vitamins B1, B2, and C, making it extremely popular as a food for preventing colds, improving skin beauty, and dieting.
In particular, the pumpkins produced in Haenam are grown in facilities such as greenhouses and eco-friendly mesh structures, cultivated in the air without touching the soil, resulting in cleanliness and superior quality. Among pumpkins produced nationwide, they are considered a premium specialty product with very high consumer preference.
Called "chestnut pumpkin" for its soft texture and chestnut-like flavor, it contains a sugar content of over 12 Brix, higher than watermelon sugar content, and can be used in various dishes such as roasted chestnut pumpkin, steamed dishes, lattes, and bread.
This year, the harvest started about a week earlier than last year, and after a ripening period, it will be introduced to consumers nationwide.
This year, Haenam-gun is expected to produce a total of about 820 tons of mini chestnut pumpkins on 45.7 hectares by 250 farms, generating an income of approximately 5 billion KRW.
