SK Considering 100 Billion Won Investment in AirAsia
Received Proposal to Invest 10% Stake in AirAsia
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] SK Group is considering investing 100 billion KRW in AirAsia, a Malaysian low-cost carrier (LCC).
According to SK Group on the 4th, SK Southeast Asia Investment Corporation received an offer to acquire a 10% stake in AirAsia. The price for acquiring the 10% stake is a total of 33.042 million ringgit (approximately 95.2 billion KRW).
AirAsia is known to be raising funds from local banks and institutional investors to overcome financial difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
SK stated, "We have received a proposal for equity investment from AirAsia and are reviewing it, but nothing has been finalized."
Industry insiders interpret that SK is reviewing the investment based on the growth potential of related digital businesses rather than entering the aviation industry.
