SK Telecom announced on the 1st that it has signed a business agreement with the Independence Hall of Korea to build a '5G MEC-based AR·MR Eco Museum.' The eco museum to be established over the next five years refers to a new type of museum that preserves, nurtures, and exhibits all resources within the region, including culture, history, and natural environment. Both parties plan to utilize SK Telecom's advanced ICT technology and the Independence Hall's abundant content and natural environment infrastructure to transform the Independence Hall into an innovative landmark for historical experiences.
First, SK Telecom and the Independence Hall plan to build a 5GX-based history-themed complex cultural experience center equipped with various immersive and experiential contents, differentiating it from existing museums and memorial halls.
The experience center will implement independent movement bases worldwide as augmented reality linked with figures and episodes based on SK Telecom's virtual space technology. Through this, visitors can experience immersive services that encompass the past, present, and future as if they are with actual independence activists. Additionally, the digitally restored detailed data of independence activists will be realized as digital signage capable of real-time communication with visitors.
The outdoor exhibition space will also be composed of experiential contents using 5GX. An experiential content exhibition space will be prepared on the Independence Hall's vast outdoor grounds to build an empathetic exhibition experience environment connecting the past and future. In particular, 4DX, AR, and VR stereoscopic videos themed on the history of the independence movement will be produced and enjoyed in real-time in ultra-high definition (4K) through 5GX, allowing visitors to enjoy a more vivid experience.
SK Telecom plans to link this with its AR service 'Jump AR' in the future to provide new experiences using AR in daily life. In addition to exhibitions, a separate experience space will be established within the Independence Hall to operate 'Independence Movement with Albert' and 'Smart School' using the AI coding robot Albert.
Yu Sang-young, head of SK Telecom's MNO business division, said, "Through this cooperation with the Independence Hall, we expect to create new achievements in social value creation through the establishment of an ICT experience environment," and added, "We will do our best to advance the AR/VR industry and enhance its value through the development of ICT experience content for the Independence Hall based on 5G MEC."
