Isangpil Lee, Kyuh Ho Kim, and Changrok Woo Selected for Gyeongju City Cultural Award
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Gyeongju City announced on the 31st that the Gyeongju Cultural Foundation held the '32nd Gyeongju City Cultural Awards' judging committee meeting at the city hall video conference room on the 29th and selected the final winners in three categories.
On that day, the foundation's judging committee conducted a secret ballot for candidates in four categories: ▲Culture & Arts ▲Education & Scholarship ▲Society & Sports ▲Special Award, and selected candidates in three categories except Society & Sports with two-thirds approval of the attending committee members.
Lee Sang-pil (77, Gujeong-dong), selected as the winner in the Culture & Arts category, currently serves as Jeon-gyo (head) of Gyeongju Hyanggyo and is active as chairman of the Gyeongbuk Hyanggyo Jeon-gyo Council and honorary advisory member of the National Studies Promotion. He established a social education institute affiliated with Hyanggyo, broke existing customs by holding the Gyeongju Hyanggyo Eumhakhoe (music society), and annually hosts traditional wedding events and Giro-yeon for seniors in their 70s, contributing to restoring moral ethics and filial piety through Confucianism.

View original imageKim Gyu-ho (64, Hwangseong-dong), the winner in the Education & Scholarship category, is currently a professor in the Department of Cultural Tourism Industry at Gyeongju University. Having served as the dean of Gyeongju University Graduate School, advisor to Gyeongju City's Future Development Committee, and vice president of the Korean Tourism Association, he has published over 50 papers including research on the authenticity and tourism resource development of 'Donggung and Wolji,' contributing to the activation of local historical resources and the tourism industry.
Woo Chang-rok (67, Seoul), selected as the winner of the newly established Special Award category this year, is a native of Yuldong, Gyeongju City, and honorary chairman of the law firm Yulchon LLC. Serving as chairman of the Good Society Foundation, chairman of the Korea Education Volunteer Group, and director of the Seoul Law School Scholarship Foundation, he has been highly praised for greatly contributing to regional cultural development by sponsoring the New Korea Philharmonic Orchestra's Gyeongju performances since 2004.

Meanwhile, the Gyeongju City Cultural Awards, established in 1989, have produced a total of 137 winners until last year. This year's award ceremony will be held at the '13th Gyeongju Citizens' Day' commemorative event in the outdoor garden of Hwangryongwon on June 8. Winners will receive a plaque and a prize of 3 million KRW each.
