Seongnam-si to Open Mobile Workers' Shelter on the 1st of Next Month
[Asia Economy (Seongnam) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province, will open a rest shelter for mobile workers on the 2nd floor of the Morandream City building near Exit 5 of Moran Station in Seongnam-dong, Jungwon-gu, on the 1st of next month.
The mobile workers' rest shelter is intended for workers in mobile occupations and special employment types who require waiting time due to the nature of their work and lack proper rest spaces, such as designated driver drivers, quick service couriers, delivery couriers, private tutors, and care workers.
Seongnam City selected a building near Moran Station, which is convenient for public transportation and easily accessible, and established the mobile workers' rest shelter with a project cost of 2.121 billion KRW (including 876 million KRW from provincial funds).
The shelter covers an area of 202 square meters and is composed of eight spaces, including a lounge hall, male and female restrooms, a lecture room, a counseling room, and a pantry.
The shelter is also equipped with facilities such as massage chairs, blood pressure monitors, body fat analyzers, and unmanned parcel lockers.
It can accommodate about 40 people at once and is open from 10 a.m. Monday to Saturday until 7 a.m. the following day.
The operation of the mobile workers' rest shelter will be entrusted to the Seongnam branch of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions for three years.
Once the COVID-19 situation ends, the city plans to provide labor, legal, and employment counseling, humanities, labor law, hobby, and educational programs for mobile workers through the shelter, as well as accept reports of wage arrears and unfair labor practices.
