Gradual Reopening of Public Cultural and Sports Facilities in Gwanak-gu
Sports centers, exhibition halls, libraries, and 43 other cultural and sports facilities suspended due to COVID-19 to reopen from the 25th... Practicing 'Gwanak-style social distancing' by adhering to facility-specific operation guidelines
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) is gradually reopening cultural and sports public facilities that had been closed since February 5 due to the impact of COVID-19.
The district announced that, based on strict hygiene management by individuals and groups and adherence to social distancing guidelines in daily life, it resumed operations of 43 cultural and sports facilities in the area starting from the 25th.
The reopened facilities include 10 sports facilities such as the 1st and 2nd Citizen Stadiums and Sillim Sports Center, 3 cultural facilities including the Gang Gam-chan Exhibition Hall and Midang Seo Jeong-ju’s House, and 30 libraries including Gwanak Central Library and small libraries, prioritizing facilities with high usage rates among residents.
The district plans to partially open facilities within the scope that allows compliance with social distancing guidelines by establishing operational rules for each facility.
The sports facilities opening include tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer fields, gyms, and badminton courts, with daily user numbers limited to 50% of capacity. Facility rentals are only available to residents and local clubs, and events are restricted.
Additionally, the provision of shared sportswear and towels is prohibited, and some facilities will not operate shower rooms.
Cultural facilities will operate with visitor numbers limited to 50% of capacity through advance reservations only for exhibition programs. Libraries will provide face-to-face lending and return services only, with restricted reading room operations to ensure thorough social distancing.
Along with this, the district completed comprehensive disinfection of all facilities by professional companies in time for reopening and distributed 1,000 hand sanitizers, 2,000 disinfectants, and about 60 thermometers.
Furthermore, visitor logs, temperature checks, and mandatory mask-wearing are enforced during facility use, and banners and posters promoting social distancing guidelines are distributed to ensure residents can use the facilities safely with thorough management.
For facilities that have not yet reopened, the district plans to sequentially open them after preparing measures to ease resident density and following Seoul city guidelines.
Mayor Park Jun-hee stated, “Thanks to the active participation of residents, we were able to partially reopen cultural and sports public facilities. Until COVID-19 is eradicated, we will do our best to ensure ‘Gwanak-style social distancing’ based on strong quarantine measures so that residents’ daily lives can recover as soon as possible.”
