June 1-19 Local Community Center Visit Registration... Welfare, Excellence, Merit, Gangbuk Hope 4 Categories... 40 High School Students, 11 University Students Selected... Tuition and Fees Provided... Annual 1.45 Million KRW (High School), 2 Million KRW (University)
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangbuk-gu (Mayor Park Kyum-soo) is recruiting the ‘2020 Gangbuk-gu Scholarship Students’ from June 1 to 19 to promote the welfare of residents and foster local talents.
The ‘Gangbuk-gu Scholarship’ program selects students who face difficulties in their studies due to economic reasons and supports their annual tuition fees each year.
The number of selected students is a total of 51 in four categories: ▲Welfare ▲Excellence ▲Merit ▲Gangbuk Hope, including 40 high school students and 11 university students.
High school students will receive full annual tuition fees (1,450,800 KRW) excluding entrance fees, and university students will receive 2 million KRW per year for tuition. However, if selected in the Seoul regional equal opportunity section of the Gangbuk Hope category, the amount will be increased to 3.6 million KRW per year.
Applicants must be high school or university students who have continuously had their resident registration address in the district for more than one year as of the announcement date (May 25, 2020).
Specifically, high school students who are eligible for free education or other statutory tuition support are excluded from selection, and students previously selected as ‘Gangbuk-gu Scholarship Students’ will be given lower priority. University students must be children of households with total assets under 300 million KRW and whose household income is below 65% of the median income, including recipients of the National Basic Livelihood Security and legally designated low-income groups.
Since eligibility criteria and required documents vary by category, interested applicants should carefully check the announcement on the Gangbuk-gu Office website’s news section and then apply in person at the resident center of their jurisdiction.
The district office will notify the selected candidates by July and plans to provide scholarships twice a year in August and October. For further inquiries, detailed guidance can be obtained from the Gangbuk-gu Office Welfare Policy Division or each resident center.
Mayor Park Kyum-soo of Gangbuk-gu said, “The Gangbuk-gu scholarship has served as a foundation for students to grow into outstanding talents of our hometown,” and added, “We will continue to create an environment where children passionate about their studies can nurture their dreams and hopes without any restrictions.”
