Jung Hyun-bok, Mayor of Gwangyang, Takes Active Steps to Secure National Budget for 2021

On that day, Mayor Jeong proposed to the Ministry of SMEs and Startups △400 billion won for the construction of the Namhaean Southern Central Region SME Training Center (400 billion won from the national budget), to the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries △200 billion won for the construction of the Gwangyang Port Marine Industry Hall (200 billion won from the national budget) △100 billion won for the Gwangyang Marine Bay Development Project (100 billion won from the national budget), △30 billion won for the regeneration project of Dochon Port fishing village in Gwangyeong-dong and Taein-dong (21 billion won from the national budget), to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport △23 billion won for the construction of Namdo 2 Bridge (11.5 billion won from the national budget) △18 billion won for the Somjingang Complex Rest Area Development Project (9 billion won from the national budget), △20.5 billion won for the job-linked support housing public project (5.2 billion won from the national budget), and to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy △20 billion won for the steel industry re-leap technology development preliminary feasibility study project (high manganese steel commercialization demonstration project) (10 billion won from the national budget), △16 billion won for the establishment of a manufacturing software convergence-based materials and parts industry ecosystem (9.1 billion won from the national budget).
The city has held three new project discovery reporting meetings aligned with government policies from September last year to January this year to secure national funds for 2021. In addition, in January, it invited senior officials from the Ministry of Strategy and Finance to conduct employee capacity-building training to secure national and provincial funds.
In particular, during this visit, the mayor held a luncheon meeting with about 30 central government officials, including hometown public officials, to explain local projects and ask for support in hometown development.

Jeong Hyeon-bok, mayor of Gwangyang City, said, "I plan to visit central government ministries, the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, and the National Assembly whenever I have time, believing that securing national funds is proportional to the wear on shoes," adding, "I will do my best to ensure that the national budget projects become a catalyst for revitalizing the local economy."
