Envionia Supplies Materials for In Vitro Diagnostic Kits
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Enbionia, the only advanced composite material manufacturer in Korea based on wet process technology, announced on the 21st that it has filed a patent for medical materials and started supplying related materials. The patent is titled 'Moisture Absorption Pad for Medical Diagnostic Kits and Its Manufacturing Method,' and it plans to apply it to various in vitro diagnostic kits in the future.
An Enbionia official stated, “Based on the technology accumulated through years of developing and producing medical composite materials, we proceeded with patent applications to secure intellectual property rights,” adding, “Moreover, by achieving quality equal to or better than existing global material companies in terms of performance and quality, we have officially entered the in vitro diagnostic kit material market.”
The medical materials supplied by Enbionia are used as sample pads and moisture absorption pads located at both ends of rapid test kits used for on-site testing.
Purity is crucial for pads used in in vitro diagnostic kits. Since the sample must diffuse uniformly to obtain accurate test results, the material significantly affects the performance of the in vitro diagnostic kit. The composite materials for pads in in vitro diagnostic kits are a market dominated by global material companies from Europe and elsewhere, making Enbionia’s product launch more meaningful in terms of domestic production of medical materials.
The product developed by Enbionia can be used as a material for ‘antibody immunodiagnostic rapid test kits.’ The ‘antibody immunodiagnostic method’ is somewhat less accurate compared to the ‘gene amplification RT-PCR method’ currently used for COVID-19 testing in Korea, but it does not require expensive equipment or specialized personnel and can provide results within 10 minutes. Therefore, it is widely used in many countries across the US, Europe, and Asia. Additionally, antibody testing using the antibody immunodiagnostic method is expected to be conducted soon in Korea as well.
With the explosive increase in demand and interest in in vitro diagnostic kits due to the spread of COVID-19, interest in high-performance medical composite materials is also rising. It is expected that demand for medical materials with excellent performance will surge to obtain rapid and accurate results even with smaller sample volumes.
