Domestic Infectious Disease Experts Gather... Sharing COVID-19 Research

View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Junho] Domestic infectious disease experts will gather in one place to share research results on the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and work on measures to respond.
The Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology's Center for Emerging Virus Infection (CEVI) and the Government-wide Infectious Disease Research and Development Project Group (GFID) will hold a joint symposium on the 20th at the Best Western Premier Seoul Garden Hotel in Mapo, Seoul, focusing on the current status and role of infectious disease research projects during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Experts will present research results divided into fields such as COVID-19 epidemiology and surveillance, diagnostics and protective clothing, therapeutics, and vaccines.
In the epidemiology and surveillance session, topics such as the scale of the COVID-19 outbreak and the transmission epidemiology of COVID-19 in Korea will be presented. In the diagnostics and protective clothing session, presentations will cover the current status of diagnostic technologies and fabrics and products possessing Class 6 pass-level resistance to infectious disease organisms. In the therapeutics and vaccines session, presentations will focus on the transmission characteristics of COVID-19, therapeutic development, and COVID-19 treatment.
The panel discussion will include Dr. Ko Unyoung (International Tuberculosis Research Institute), Dr. Choi Wonseok (Korea University College of Medicine), Dr. Lee Seunggyu (Korea Bio Association), Dr. Lee Jusil (GFID), Dr. Kim Taeyeon (Boryung Biopharma), Dr. Kim Yongju (LegoChem Biosciences), Dr. Hwang Eungsu (Seoul National University College of Medicine), and Dr. Kim Beomtae (CEVI), who will discuss the current status and role of the infectious disease research project group.
Kim Beomtae, head of the Center for Emerging Virus Infection, said, "I hope this will be an opportunity for researchers from various fields to share their COVID-19 research achievements so far and seek solutions together."

Meanwhile, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, only researchers from the two research groups will attend the event. The presentation content will later be produced as videos and posted on the YouTube channels and websites of both organizations.
