Pohang City Resumes Agricultural Education Halted by COVID-19... Prioritizing Agricultural College
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] Pohang City, Gyeongsangbuk-do announced on the 19th that it will resume agricultural education, which had been temporarily suspended due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), starting with the ‘Agricultural College Apple Basic Class.’
The Pohang Agricultural Technology Center had planned to conduct agricultural education for 15,070 farmers through 23 courses including New Year Practical Agricultural Education, Agricultural College, Rice Cake Manufacturing Technician, Welfare Gardening Specialist, Rural Traditional Culture School, GAP Education, and Agricultural Machinery Education since February, but postponed them due to COVID-19.
Among these programs, △Pohang Agricultural College △Return-to-Farming and Rural Living Academy △Young Farmer Academy will be sequentially prepared.
The ‘Pohang Agricultural College,’ which opens on the 20th, will operate four classes: Apple Basic Class, Apple Core Leader Class, Agro-food Processing Class, and Korean Beef Class. A total of 178 freshmen have enrolled. To prevent COVID-19, the freshmen entrance ceremony will be omitted.
Especially this year, as an advanced course of Pohang Agricultural College, new classes for Soil and Fertilizer and Crop Physiology have been organized to provide systematic education necessary for soil management and nutrition management through courses on soil and plant cultivation, which are the basics of scientific farming.
Pohang City plans to pay maximum attention to hygiene management, such as maintaining sufficient distance between trainees by enforcing a one-person-one-desk rule to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
