The Vivid Voice of the 20s Delivered by Kim Woong... "I Thought the United Party Would Lose More"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] "I thought the United Future Party would lose more, but they actually got more votes than expected."
"I’m embarrassed to support a conservative party in front of my friends."
Kim Woong, the elected member of the United Future Party, conveyed the vivid voices of young people in their 20s regarding the party.
On the afternoon of the 18th, at the 'General Election Evaluation Media Environment Analysis Seminar' held at the National Assembly Members' Office Building, Kim said, "I felt that our party was left behind by the world."
He shared, "At a recent meeting with young people in their 20s, I heard comments like 'I thought they would lose more, but they got more votes than expected,' 'a bland and odorless party,' 'why would women vote for the United Future Party,' 'I’m embarrassed to support a conservative party in front of my friends,' 'they failed to sever ties with the extreme supporters,' and 'I felt repulsed because they couldn’t acknowledge the impeachment,'" conveying the voices from the field.
He added, "There were also remarks like 'I don’t know why the Democratic Party won,' 'I didn’t vote for the Democratic Party because I supported them,' and 'I don’t think the Democratic Party is a progressive party, but I voted for the mainstream out of anxiety,'" expressing his surprise after hearing these stories.
Kim also pointed out the party’s communication failures and conservative image, saying, "There were comments that only the pink color changed but the content didn’t, that the party is seen as uncommunicative and an elderly party, and that the conservative image we think of is different."
He noted, "We have the COVID-19 issue and think about it, but among young people, COVID-19 was hardly mentioned," and added, "Although we want to deny it, from what I saw, I felt that we were left behind by the world."

Kim analyzed the cause, saying, "In 1945, the British Conservative Party was exactly like this. After experiencing a wartime economy, the people were accustomed to the national system and mobilization economy, trusting the state-led survival solutions, but the party insisted on the existing laissez-faire values, causing a huge gap," and concluded, "We were about ten years behind the trend."
