[Asia Economy Reporter Kwangho Lee] Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun stated on the 17th regarding the postponed school attendance schedule for students due to the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) situation, "High school seniors (Grade 12) will go to school on the 20th. They have entrance exam issues as well."
Prime Minister Chung mentioned this during his appearance on KBS Sunday Diagnosis that morning. According to the schedule, Grade 12 students will attend school on the 20th, Grade 11, Grade 9, Grades 1?2 of elementary school, and kindergarteners on the 27th, Grade 10, Grade 8, Grades 3?4 of elementary school on the 3rd of next month, and Grade 7 and Grades 5?6 of elementary school on the 8th of next month.
He also said, "Fortunately, the number of confirmed cases originating from Itaewon clubs is stabilizing, but if an unexpected situation occurs, we have no choice but to respond swiftly," adding, "There have been criticisms that the timing of switching to daily life quarantine was too early, but we cannot continue to sacrifice the economy. We judge the timing to have been appropriate."
Furthermore, regarding the economic impact of COVID-19, he forecasted a prolonged recession and said, "If the foreign situation improves, our economy can also rise," emphasizing, "Even if we cannot achieve a 'V'-shaped recovery, we must strive for a 'U'-shaped recovery."
Regarding the third supplementary budget bill (supplementary budget), he explained, "It will be larger in scale than the first and second supplementary budgets," and added, "Issuing government bonds is inevitable." However, he said, "Fiscal soundness is a concerning issue, but we will minimize worries."
