Listening to Challenges Faced by Local Businesspeople Affected by COVID-19, Seeking Solutions... Gangdong-gu Implements Comprehensive Measures with 59 Projects in 4 Areas to Revitalize Local Economy
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Lee Jung-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, attended a meeting with local businesspeople to overcome COVID-19 at 10 a.m. on the 14th in the small conference room on the 3rd floor of the district office.
This meeting was organized to provide an opportunity to listen to the difficulties and suggestions of local businesspeople caused by COVID-19, together with small business owners and representatives from various industries in the region.
Starting the meeting, Lee Jung-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, "The current Korean economy can be described as a wartime situation, but the actual perception of businesspeople is much worse. I hope that those who came today will voice the realities on the ground so that we can explore practical ways and alternatives to help."
At the meeting, the Gangdong-gu comprehensive plan for revitalizing the local economy, consisting of 59 projects in four areas?support for small business owners and SMEs, job support, revitalizing commercial districts, and economic stimulus measures?was briefly introduced. It was also announced that Gangdong-gu is monitoring the progress of the comprehensive plan through regular policy meetings.
Afterwards, local businesspeople proposed various opinions, including quarantine measures for small business owners and SMEs, job creation, and ideas for customized COVID-19 related policies.
In conclusion, Lee Jung-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, said, "The district will prioritize quarantine measures to ensure the COVID-19 crisis ends quickly and will review the opinions given today to reflect them in policies. We will also continuously propose policies that businesspeople can feel to Seoul City and the government to overcome this crisis together."
The district has launched a large-scale rent reduction campaign focusing on traditional markets and alleyway commercial districts, with over 500 participating landlords and more than 1,448 participating stores.
