Gyeonggi Special Judicial Police Crack Down on 23 Sites Illegally Distributing Fertilizers and Pesticides
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province has uncovered 23 companies illegally selling and storing pesticides and fertilizers.
The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police Unit announced on the 13th that, in preparation for the busy farming season, it conducted inspections from March 30 to the 24th of last month on 135 pesticide and fertilizer sales businesses within the province, uncovering 23 places that were illegally selling or storing pesticides and fertilizers.
By violation type, the most common was pesticides past their efficacy guarantee period, found in 8 locations. Next were 4 businesses selling fertilizers without guarantee labels, and 2 unregistered production and sales businesses.
Company A, a fertilizer sales business located in Goyang, was caught selling 6,900 units (6 ml each) of trunk injection fertilizer (a method of injecting chemicals into tree trunks by inserting needles or drilling holes) without guarantee labels from 2018 until recently.
Five places, including Company B in Siheung, were found storing tens of tons of pesticides arbitrarily in unauthorized locations such as tents, leading to their detection during the crackdown.

According to the Pesticide Control Act and Fertilizer Control Act, unregistered business activities and sales of pesticides or fertilizers past their efficacy guarantee period can be punished by imprisonment of up to three years or fines up to 30 million won.
