Cultural Heritage Administration Holds Inter-Korean Cultural Heritage Policy Forum
'Understanding North Korean National Heritage and Plans for Inter-Korean Cultural Heritage Exchange and Cooperation' Discussed Over 4 Sessions
The Cultural Heritage Administration, Gyeonggi Province, and Gangwon Province announced on the 13th that the "2020 1st Inter-Korean Cultural Heritage Policy Forum" will be held at 1:30 PM on the 14th in the auditorium of the annex building of the National Palace Museum. The theme is "Understanding North Korean National Heritage and Measures for Inter-Korean Cultural Heritage Exchange and Cooperation." This forum will be held in four sessions.
The first discussion will focus on "The Current Status and Understanding of National Heritage According to Policy Changes in North Korea." The keynote presentation will be based on cultural heritage from the prehistoric era to the Japanese colonial period in North Korea, as well as sites surveyed after liberation. Topics include ▲ Policy changes regarding North Korean national heritage and research status of tangible heritage (historical sites), ▲ North Korea's national heritage policies and historical artifacts, ▲ Inter-Korean exchange and cooperation in the field of intangible cultural heritage, and ▲ Policy changes in North Korean national heritage and the current status and understanding of natural monuments and scenic sites.
After the presentations, a designated discussion and free discussion among participating members will follow, chaired by Professor Emeritus Byeong-woo Ahn of Hanshin University. A Cultural Heritage Administration official stated, "We expect discussions on establishing a more practical system for inter-Korean cultural heritage exchange and cooperation."

The Inter-Korean Cultural Heritage Policy Forum, launched last year, is an advisory body established to formulate policies for expanding inter-Korean cultural heritage exchange and cooperation. Last year, it comprehensively addressed the "Demilitarized Zone (DMZ)" over six sessions.
