Gwangju University 40th Anniversary: Strong Steps Toward 'Future-Oriented Education'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangju University (President Kim Hyuk-jong) announced on the 12th that it will commemorate its past history and take a strong step toward a new future on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the founding of Hosim Academy and the 40th anniversary of the school's opening.
This year, Gwangju University has been consecutively selected for major national projects such as the Urban Regeneration Professional Workforce Training Project and the Content One Campus Construction and Operation Project for two consecutive years, establishing itself as a cradle for nurturing creative convergence talents.
With the goal of fostering innovative convergence talents required in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution and becoming a representative urban regeneration hub educational institution in the Honam and Jeju regions, the university is establishing master's and doctoral programs in urban regeneration and reorganizing departments to cultivate specialized 'Urban Regeneration Doctors (UR-Doctor)' in the field of urban regeneration.
It is the only university in the Honam region selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Urban Regeneration Professional Workforce Training Project' and will play a central role in urban regeneration hub education by nurturing experts in line with the government's urban regeneration New Deal project and linking them to employment.
In particular, to strengthen practical skills and employment capabilities, the university plans to develop and intensively nurture future-leading curricula through convergence with the Department of Urban Planning and Real Estate, Department of Architecture, College of Culture and Arts, and LINC+ Project Group.
Along with this, it plans to accelerate education in future immersive content such as Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and drones, which are attracting attention as future growth engines.
It is the only university in the Gwangju and Jeonnam regions operating the 'Content One Campus Construction Project' for two consecutive years and is carrying out the 'VR Immersive Content Asia’s Kitchen and Food' project in the VR (Virtual Reality) convergence immersive content field. To nurture creative convergence talents required in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, various VR immersive media-based content production projects are being promoted.
Students from Gwangju University's Department of Photography, Video, and Drone received great response and raised expectations with the 'Asian Food Culture Record Content VR COOKBOOK: Asia’s Kitchen' announced in February as part of a consortium with the Asia Culture Center.
The 'Content One Campus Construction and Operation Project' is a project aimed at nurturing talents who will lead the future content industry through the establishment of an industry-academia-research-institute education cooperation system and the development of convergence content projects and foundational education.
President Kim Hyuk-jong said, “Urban regeneration and the content industry are key drivers leading future growth,” adding, “We will carry out and support various projects to nurture creative convergence talents who will lead the future of the region and the nation.”
