Creation of 'Flower Path Garden with Four Seasons Rest and Culture' in Siheung 3-dong, Geumcheon-gu
Siheung 3-dong Village Fund Management Committee and Residents Take Direct Action... Secured 16 Million KRW in City Subsidies, Remaining Budget Raised from Siheung 3-dong Village Fund
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] In Siheung 3-dong, Geumcheon-gu, there is a Rose Street that residents have created and carefully maintained by themselves for several years.
Rose Street, which is also the school commute area for elementary, middle, and high school students, has become a popular spot where people gather to take photos at night thanks to arch lighting installed by residents using village funds.
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) announced that Siheung 3-dong residents will lead the “2020 Community Garden Creation Project” to transform Rose Street into a flower garden with rest and culture.
The “2020 Community Garden Creation Project” is organized by the Siheung 3-dong Hanmaeum Village Fund Management Committee, with participation from functional groups such as the Residents’ Autonomy Association, the Neighborhood Leaders’ Council, and general residents. They will plant colorful four-season roses, perennial flowers, hydrangeas, and other seasonal flowers on Rose Street, creating a cultural space where residents can enjoy and relax together.
Selected for the 2020 Seoul City “Community Garden Creation Resident Proposal Project,” the project secured a subsidy of 16 million KRW, with the remainder funded by the Siheung 3-dong village fund.
Residents of Siheung 3-dong plan to plant seasonal flowers such as roses and hydrangeas in May and gradually complete the flower garden project by November.
The Siheung 3-dong village fund was launched in December 2018 through residents’ donations and participation to solve local issues independently and realize sustainable resident autonomy. Through the village fund, residents have discovered and implemented necessary projects such as “Serving Rice Cake Soup to Neighborhood Elders” and “Maintaining Alley Plant Boxes.”
Kim Myung-ja, Chairperson of the Village Fund Management Committee, expressed her ambition, saying, “We will work together with residents to make Rose Street a richer and more beautiful landmark of Geumcheon-gu. We will do our best to create a flower path so that residents can be happy and enjoy themselves in this space reborn with a new look.”
