Korean Party: "President Moon's Speech Disappointing... Strongly One-Sided in Nature"
“How many people feel their thirst for national governance has been quenched?”
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] On the 10th, the Future Korea Party criticized President Moon Jae-in's special speech on the 3rd anniversary of his inauguration, saying, "The term 'special speech to the nation' sounds very unfamiliar. They named it a special speech to the nation by including responses to questions from three reporters in a one-way national address," and added, "It is very different from the 3rd anniversary press conference, which emphasized communication and dialogue with the people. How many citizens feel their thirst for governance has been quenched?"
Cho Soo-jin, spokesperson for the Korea Party, said in a statement that "Three years ago, President Moon promised to be a communicating president by saying at his inauguration, 'I will personally brief the media on major issues.' However, up to this point, President Moon has held only four press conferences," and added, "Our people would like to see President Moon randomly call on reporters who raise their hands and confidently answer questions like presidents or prime ministers of advanced countries."
Spokesperson Cho also stated, "In the fourth year of the administration, cooperation and communication with the opposition party are essential to produce better results," and emphasized, "To successfully promote the 'Korean New Deal' to overcome the COVID-19 crisis, it is necessary to boldly revise policies with confirmed side effects, such as the existing nuclear phase-out and government-led 'income-led growth' policies rather than corporate-led ones."

Cho further noted, "Last year, unemployment benefit payments increased by 25% compared to 2018, surpassing 8 trillion won for the first time in history. In March this year, unemployment benefit payments surged by more than 40% compared to March last year. It is difficult to attribute this solely to the COVID-19 situation," and said, "The more sensitive and difficult the issue, the more the leader must directly persuade and seek understanding from the people. This is true leadership in communication."
