Police Detain and Transfer Son Who Beat His 80s Dementia Father to Death
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] A man in his 40s who assaulted his elderly father with dementia, causing his death, has been handed over to the prosecution.
On the 6th, the Jungnang Police Station in Seoul announced that they had arrested A, a man in his 40s, on charges of injury resulting in death of a family member and sent him to the prosecution.
According to the police, A is accused of hitting his father, who is in his 80s and living with him, in the abdomen with his elbow after the father did not follow his instructions while A was helping him to the bathroom at a residence in Jungnang-gu, Seoul, around 11 p.m. on the 21st of last month, causing his death.
The day after the incident, A concealed the fact that he had assaulted his father and called 119, reporting that "my father is not breathing."
Based on the autopsy results from the National Forensic Service, which indicated that the bruises on the body appeared to have been caused by external force, the police urgently arrested A near a funeral hall on the 23rd of last month.

Based on testimonies from those around and other evidence, the police concluded that A did not intend to kill his father and applied charges of injury resulting in death of a family member rather than murder of a family member, and sent the case to the prosecution.
