Songpa-gu, 'Carnation Diffuser Making' for Parents' Day
Delivered to 141 Lonely Elderly Living Alone
[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) delivers the scent of love to lonely elderly living alone in celebration of Parents' Day.
Every year on Parents' Day, various commemorative events are held for the elderly to show respect and gratitude. However, this year, all events were canceled due to COVID-19.
Accordingly, Songpa-gu will conduct a 'Making Carnation Diffusers Filled with Love' activity for 141 elderly living alone who are expected to experience increased feelings of depression and loneliness on Parents' Day, especially those who have lost contact with family and relatives.
Care workers will visit the homes of elderly living alone and conduct one-on-one hands-on activities to make carnation diffusers.
Although social distancing has ended, 'distancing in daily life' to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is still in effect, so care workers visiting the elderly homes will wear masks and gloves and thoroughly manage safety measures such as hand sanitization.
The elderly participating in making the carnation diffusers will also be required to check their temperature and wear masks to ensure safety management.
Songpa-gu explained that by making carnation diffusers with their hands, they aim to provide simple joy to the monotonous lives of elderly living alone and offer emotional support to those who feel isolated and lonely.
Additionally, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, they plan to implement emotional support programs providing companion plants and bean sprout containers to elderly living alone who remain at home.
