[Asia Economy Reporter Han Seung-gon] U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he will release a report containing decisive evidence that the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) originated from the virus laboratory in Wuhan, China. U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also emphasized that China will be held accountable.
According to U.S. CNN on the 3rd (local time), President Trump appeared at a Fox News-hosted 'Town Hall' event broadcast from the Lincoln Memorial in Washington and stated that a report containing decisive evidence that COVID-19 started at the virus laboratory in Wuhan, China, will be released.
When asked by the host, "Did the virus come from China's laboratory intentionally or unintentionally?" President Trump replied, "My opinion is that they made a mistake."
He continued, "They (China) tried to cover it up. But they couldn't put out the fire," and said, "They blocked people from entering China, but they couldn't stop Chinese people from traveling around the world." He added, "They knew there was a problem. I believe they were embarrassed by this issue."
Following President Donald Trump, Secretary Pompeo also claimed on the 3rd that there is "massive evidence" that COVID-19 originated from the Wuhan Virus Laboratory in China.
According to foreign media including Bloomberg News, Secretary Pompeo appeared on ABC News that day and said, "I can say there is evidence that this (COVID-19) came from that laboratory in Wuhan."
He added, "Remember that China has a history of infecting the world and operating substandard laboratories," and pointed out, "This is not the first time the world has been exposed to a virus due to a failure at a Chinese laboratory."
He then emphasized, "President Trump is very clear," and said, "We will hold them accountable, and we will do so on our own timetable."

So far, the U.S. has continuously raised suspicions that COVID-19 may have originated from the Chinese state-run Wuhan Virus Laboratory. Some experts have also suggested the possibility that COVID-19 spread from the Huanan market in Wuhan, where wildlife sales are active. In response, the Chinese government has repeatedly denied claims that the Wuhan laboratory is the origin of COVID-19.
