Sinan-gun Wind Power Plant, Residents Complain of Damage Due to Illegal Soil Landfill
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seo Young-seo] The Jaeun Resident Wind Power Plant in Sinan, Jeonnam, received an order to restore the site after illegally importing soil.
According to the county on the 4th, the Jaeun Resident Wind Power Plant, which is constructing a 29.4MW wind power complex in Jaeun-myeon, Sinan-gun, illegally brought in soil from a nearby excavation site during the construction of the electrical control room.
The power plant illegally imported soil intended for the Wuryang Farmland Development Project located 1 km away from the construction site, with the amount estimated to be equivalent to about 100 trucks carrying 15 tons each.
Additionally, the process of transporting the soil caused noise and dust scattering, leading to strong protests from local residents.
Resident Choi said, “Children are attending online classes at home, so we requested that the work be restrained, but the construction was pushed forward,” and added, “Not only did they illegally transport soil, but they also failed to properly cover the vehicles, causing a lot of dust to spread throughout the village,” expressing anger.
After receiving complaints, Sinan-gun issued an order to the Jaeun Resident Wind Power Plant to restore the illegally imported soil to its original state and is investigating whether there have been additional cases of illegal soil importation to other areas from the excavation site.
