According to Daejeon City on the 3rd, 10 local governments including Daejeon, Chungnam, Chungbuk, and Boryeong City recently submitted a joint petition to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport requesting that the "Boryeong~Daejeon~Boeun Expressway" construction project be included in the "2nd Expressway Construction Plan (2021-2025)."
This project involves constructing an expressway 122 km in length and 23.4 m wide (4 lanes) connecting Boryeong in Chungnam, passing through Daejeon, and reaching Boeun in Chungbuk. The total budget expected to be invested in the project is approximately 3.153 trillion KRW.
The Chungcheong local governments anticipate that if this project is reflected in the "2nd Expressway Construction Plan," it will lay the foundation for establishing a central regional wide-area economic belt that connects the West Coast of Chungnam and the East Coast of Gyeongbuk (Gangwon) via the shortest route.
Additionally, the construction of the "Boryeong~Daejeon~Boeun Expressway" is expected to strengthen connectivity between cities in the Chungcheong region, resolve regional imbalances through the establishment of new national arterial road networks (7 north-south axes, 9 east-west axes), and reduce travel time and operating costs on the West Coast.
In particular, Daejeon City expressed that by drafting the joint petition, obtaining signatures from local government heads, and delivering it to central government ministries, a strong commitment to regional development and a close cooperative relationship for mutual growth have already been established.
