The new Galaxy Buds shaped like beans are named 'Galaxy BudsX'
Application for 'Galaxy Buds X' Trademark Submitted to European Intellectual Property Office
Product Expected to Launch with Enhanced Fitness Features
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Samsung Electronics is expected to release a new bean-shaped wireless earphone product in the second half of the year under the name 'Galaxy BudsX.' It is anticipated to strengthen fitness-related features compared to its predecessor as a rival to Apple's 'AirPods Pro.'
According to IT specialized media LetsGoDigital and others on the 29th (local time), Samsung Electronics has registered the trademark 'Galaxy BudsX' with the European Union Intellectual Property Office. Earlier this month, a bean-shaped design image was leaked, and the new wireless earphone product was presumed to be named 'Galaxy Buds Bean,' but it is highly likely to be released under the name 'Galaxy BudsX.'
IT specialized media SamMobile explained, "The trademark registration indicates the name of the successor to Galaxy Buds+ and suggests it will be released within a few months," adding, "It is expected to be launched together with the Galaxy Note20 in August."
The Galaxy BudsX is a model with enhanced fitness-related features. Samsung Electronics is known to have included software support for measuring exercise distance, speed, time, heart rate, and calorie consumption in the Galaxy BudsX. Previously, Samsung introduced the 'Gear IconX,' which provided fitness-related functions such as heart rate, speed, and distance.
The model number of the Galaxy BudsX is SM-R180, and it is a successor rather than an upgraded version of the Galaxy Buds+ (SM-R175). The design resembles a bean, and the codename is 'Beans.' The price is expected to be around $150 (approximately 170,000 KRW).

The Galaxy BudsX looks like a kidney bean, measuring 2.8 cm in length, with the lower part inserted into the ear canal and the upper part filling the upper ear. To improve sound quality, two small loudspeakers are installed, and multiple microphones are embedded to enable call quality and ambient sound recognition. It is expected to be released in an open-type design instead of an in-ear design. It has not been confirmed whether it will include noise-canceling (external noise blocking) features.
