The Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency established an investigation headquarters at the Icheon Police Station, led by Deputy Chief Ban Gi-su, and by the morning of the same day, they had questioned 28 people, including 6 construction company officials, 3 injured persons, 2 witnesses, and 17 bereaved family members.
They have also secured and are analyzing seven types of documents, including permits, design plans, construction daily reports, structural drawings, and architectural drawings. An urgent exit ban has been imposed on 15 key construction personnel, and investigations into them will proceed soon.
The police plan to focus their investigation on the cause of the fire as well as violations related to fire safety, construction, and electrical work during the warehouse construction process. Additionally, they will simultaneously provide protection for victims and their families and support related to foreign nationals who died.
The investigation headquarters is composed of 117 members, including 26 in the fire cause and construction violation investigation team, 25 in the deceased handling team, 12 in the fire forensics team, 30 in the victim protection team, 6 in the foreign affairs team, and 3 in the legal support team.
